Thank you for your post. You are right and in fact many countries have negotiated double-taxation treaties with the U.S. to prevent what I was suggesting.

It is also fascinating how quickly a bureaucracy can move when the “nation’s best interest” are at stake.

You need not worry that Germany will send Kaman a tax bill. It is only the United States (along with the Philippines and Eritrea) that tax their citizens no matter where they live. All other civilized countries do not tax their citizens if they do not live in the country unless they work for the government outside of the country.

What is interesting about Kaman’s case is that Germany generally does not allow dual citizenship. The only real exceptions are people (manly Jews) who were stripped of their citizenship during the Third Reich that get dual citizenship. Although Germans can get dual citizenship with other countries. And also the speed in which it was done was also interesting. Most foreigners in Germany have to wait up to 2 years to get German citizenship but when the nation’s best interest is at stake, mountains get moved.

Hello Holden,

A player like Diopp will not make or break the Wizards, but they need more help in the paint – preferably a big man – who will consistently rebound and block shots. Diopp was a player like that who they could have gotten for a relatively small contract. Diopp will instead return to the Mavericks for their MLE.

My preference is that they don’t enter the season with just Haywood, Thomas and McGee as their 3 big men.
